POETRY
Home to the War, 2000
Home to the war
which I wage within myself
against myself.
I cannot make peace within
my self, I rage against
the war outside myself
because
I cannot make peace within myself.
I see you rage against yourself
and I am sickened by it but I am not
sickened by the war I wage against myself.
I see you
invite others to hurt you.
When you are not doing
that you hurt yourself.
You even ask me to hurt you and I do.
And I am sickened by it as you are sickened
by it.
I think it must be
death you see
with tears in your
eyes.
I fear to anger you
as I go home
To the war I wage against myself
